International Wear a Dress Week: Day 5

I ran out of dress steam today!  Woke up late, walked out of the house in shorts, and never changed!  LOL!  Plus, I didn't do any laundry so those same dresses I'd thought about wearing in the pics never got clean for today.

It's just as well... I am getting ready to work a lot, and travel a bit, these next six weeks or so, and not much sewing will get done.  I will be sure to keep up with your blogs while away and will try my best to stay in touch, and as inspiration hits, I will post what catches my eye.

Speaking of eye-catching, I've followed Jil Sander for at least 10 years and have been curious, if not perplexed, by choices in recent seasons to go colorful, unstructured, and flowy.  I'm no fashion editor but I know what I like and don't like.  Ads are everywhere this fall for the minimalist Jil Sander I remember: it's about texture and dimension, fit and proportion.  The dress above is in tons of fashion mags this fall, and it's no wonder -- the dress is a wonder.

I definitely need to make a coat or jacket with a statement collar this year, with similarly over-the-top proportions, of course.

Look at the midriff on the suit jacket -- the seeming randomness of the creases/ folds/ not-quite-gathers is so perfect -- because you know it is so deliberate.

  1. I totally lost steam on Friday too... probably because I didn't have to go to work or anywhere for that matter. have fun traveling! sounds like you'll be busy for a while. Now that it's fall, I need to gear up for the annual UCU show in December. sew, sew, sew!

  2. I finally wore a dress, today (Saturday), for going out to forage for dinner...check it out in the IWADW pool--it's a dress I made last summer, and it's not the red one!

Thanks for tipping me off to this--otherwise I never would have known!
