Summer is really here

Monday was my first official day on summer vacation, and I woke up at 8:39 a.m. I am not sure I have woken up that late since I gave birth 5 years ago. What a luxury! And I got in the shower at 10:14. What?!

Louis and I spent the day out and about, running errands, going to the park, checking out books from the library. We had some delicious vegetarian tacos for dinner to top it off, with a "taco bar" kind of approach: warm corn tortillas, shredded cheddar, fresh chopped red onion, cilantro, sliced avocado, fried egg, and lime wedges on a platter so you could build your own. I ate about 6 of them!

Today we packed a lunch and headed to the park. There was a nice breeze to keep things cooler (and to keep me on my guard with the little sundress I picked to wear today). We'll go swimming later this afternoon, when it's so hot it feels unbearable. This is really the way I remember summer vacation when I was a kid, and I am digging the nostalgic feelings.

The trees show the signs of summer. Leaves are getting a bit crispy and taking on the darker, more emerald shades of green that are nice to see but not my personal favorite. A few leaves are already looking dry, dull, and gray! I've been getting dressed in any of my new 5 or 6 sundresses and can't wait to sew a few more.

I love to see that, even amid the stifling heat, growth still happens. Somehow, without rain, without moderation, without anything to nurture it, a little shoot will emerge from the gnarliest tree bark.
