Simplicity 2925: Dainty Dress

I am behind in posting my completed sewing projects! Almost three projects behind, so let me start catching up. About two weeks ago I finished Simplicity 2925. I actually bought the pattern for the short-sleeved version of the dress, but was very drawn to the 3/4 sleeve dress when decision time came. I had two yards of this crazy rayon print that I picked up for the Anna Sui for Vogue 1046 pattern, after which I decided that trying to match the print on those Vogue princess seams was more than I could handle. So the crazy geometric rayon got reassigned to Simplicity 2925 and off we went.

It should be said that I am NOT a detail sewing kind of gal. Anytime there is trim, ruffling, etc. that are optional I tend to run the other direction. But something about this version of the dress seemed so feminine and delicate to me in a good way that I challenged myself to get over it.

In the end, there is a lot to like about this pattern and style. I like the ease of raglan sleeves, and they are two-piece sleeves so the shape is much more flattering for the fabric and the silhouette. It was pretty quick to put together when you ignore the time I spent trying to tame the rayon with the iron (3/8" narrow hems on the sleeve flounces!) and messing with my naughty serger. All in all, a very satisfying sew and easy to wear.

  1. I agree with you on the detailed sewing. I have no patience for that either! I want instant gratification!

Good job on the dress - it looks like a great addition to a summer waredrobe.

    Thanks for the inspiration!
