It is my official submission to Cindy's dress week sew-along! I do think I sewed this during the right week, but haven't posted till now.
A few notes about the dress:
- I sewed the size 6 and took 1.5" vertically from center front and back, for a total bust circumference reduction of 3". It is not as beautifully blousy (or is it blouson-y) as Kyle's, but mine has 1" of ease as hers does.
- It took a looooong time to cut out, because of the slipperiness of this knit -- some sort of rayon/ poly blend, and very thin -- and because I really wanted to line up those stripes. They lined up pretty well along the side seams and even the pockets.
- The pattern envelope proclaims "1-hour dress" sewing time only, but this took me about 2.5 hours, and the hem (not pictured) was sewn pretty hastily. The two steps that dragged out were double-roll hemming the armholes, made more challenging because of the slippery fabric, and inserting elastic into the waist, 'cause it just takes me longer.
Love it! it looks comfy and sexy, and the pink stripey business is definitely hot.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like just the thing for super sizzling summer days :-) I really like the color combo!
ReplyDeleteI love it! the dress is both sexy and cute!!! I don't do knits but love, love it! The stripe works well.
ReplyDeleteI love the drape of the neck. I agree, knits can work my last nerve, but the end result is worth it. Looks great!
ReplyDeleteLove the color!! BTW, your package is on it's way!!! Sorry it took so long!:(
ReplyDeleteWell, a couple of things here. First off, everything you make is just impeccable. Matching stripes? As if you'd make something striped where they didn't match up? : )
ReplyDeleteSecondly, I have to say that this could be a really low-cut, floozy-ish type dress and it's just not -- it's a very cute, very nicely cut summer dress that looks great on you! I love the fact that it dips down softly in the front and a bit more (but not too much) in the back.
You put those of us who've been sewing for years to shame with the things you make. It's that attention to detail of yours -- beautifully done!
It looks so comfortable - and I think it's very cute too! I love those sorts of knit dresses when it's really hot. And I always question those "1 hour" dresses. Nothing only takes me an hour, I am seriously slow.
ReplyDeleteNice job cookie! You're right, it doesn't look at blousy as mine--also the cowl in front doesn't seem to be as deep? Such a great summer dress! and go you for making the pockets!
ReplyDeleteOh, and mine took me 3.5 hours...you beat me!
ReplyDeleteMy body was not made for horizontal stripes, but yours look great on you, especially the colour of the fabric and the drape at front and back necklines.
ReplyDeleteI've missed you. I love the casual summery feel of this dress.
ReplyDeleteThat does look like the perfect summer dress. I would not begin to tell you how far off sewing times on envelopes are for me..it's too sad.
ReplyDeleteNice choice! Very stylish indeed! I love the back and waist gathering especially. Nice fabric choice too - I envy you your 99c sales - we NEVER get those out here - I suppose because shipping means that they can never run them out that cheap.
ReplyDeleteSuper cute and comfy!
ReplyDeleteThat one-hour timeline is just to get you excited and pumped up to make it, it's not for real :) that's my theory!
i don't get the 1 hour patterns either, perhaps it is for people who don't take the time to finish seams or match up stripes and stuff?!?!?!
ReplyDeleteanyway, it's a great dress, and i love those 99 cent and $1.99 pattern sales too, i have no idea how the big pattern companies stay in business that way because i never buy them at full price.....
I'm sure that matching up the stripes made it take longer than it otherwise would have, too. But it looks like you did a good job with that!
ReplyDeleteLove it! I think if it had been as blouson-y on your dress as it was on the other, it might have been too much for your petite frame.
ReplyDeleteI'm really impressed by your perseverance on matching up the stripes!
Very cute. The stripes are great.
ReplyDeleteoooo. I love it! Great fabric and interesting back. very cute.
ReplyDeleteSuper cute--my 9 year old Man Boy saw this post and said, "She's a good sewer." So there's that compliment for you to take home. A high one.
ReplyDeleteLove it! I just bought this pattern, too. I love the print that you used!
ReplyDeleteCute! It's hot here too!
ReplyDeleteVery nice! I think that color looks GREAT on you.
ReplyDeleteVery nice..and I think it's HOT!! I really love the color..
ReplyDeleteooo, i would wear that!!! nice.
